Description: Carillon Women's Chorale will perform the "Magnificat" by Nicolai Porpora. Porpora composed for the singers at St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice, Italy during the Baroque period. He also composed and taught at one of the Venitian Oespedali (Orphanages) where the young boys were trained in the trades to eventually support a wife and family and the young girls were trained as virtuoso musicians. The teaching and musical performances were so wonderful that people traveled from all parts of Europe for the Oespedali concerts. The musicianship was to incredible that aristocrats sent their daughters to these schooling experiences for musical training. In addition to the "Magnificat", other Holiday carols and songs of the season will be performed. The audience will be invited to join Carillon in a round of Christmas Carols at the end of the concert. In lieu of ticket sales, a free will collection will be taken to assist Carillon in covering the purchase of music and performance expenses.
